The kitties are not big fans of this trend of deep house tunes with indie and poppy influences and big basslines. It’s not a matter of quality but quantity. Although sometimes you get gems like “Don’t Go Away”, the new tune from the prolific duo Kolombo & Loulou Players. It’s a nasty and minimalistic house song with a weird bassline and funny voices. A potential dancefloor hit. Two of our favorite artists of the moment – Zombie Disco Squad and Snuff Crew- are on the control of the remixes. Zombie Disco Squad keeps the nasty flow of the original with an explosive baseline. Snuff Crew brings his characteristic old school groove, making a basic but fun version of the original one. We cannot forget about Nanana, a disco monster. (Suara SC, 2012)
2 new uptempo, bass-heavy tunes on 1 fat 12″… The A-Side, ‘Be The Music’ is the drum-heavy sound of a party aboard a submarine, while ‘Nervous Energy’ provides a good dose of spaced-out, all over body-wobble. (Mr Scruff SC, 2012)
Out now on vinyl and digtally Sept 24.

For the past two years, Kieran Hebden’s been busy generating a steady stream of 12”s released on his own Text imprint, and is now showcasing his efforts in an album that draws together these and a couple of brand new tracks. In typical Four Tet fashion, ‘Pink’ exhibits a masterful ability to fuse techno, jazz and electronica in an uncluttered sonic model. Playful and evocative sounds from this legendary producer. Joining the ever-growing list of Kicks & Snares artists come a pair of Hungarians fast becoming a force to be reckoned with. Slap In The Bass‘ global influence and popularity amongst a worldwide range of DJs comes from their all-inclusive policy of sound, and this progressive outlook is on full display for their first appearance on RKS.
‘Utopia’ contains many elements that has made this label what it is today, in particular the drum programming which is subtly arranged yet still hard hitting. Yet more and more undefined sounds creep into play, and after the bells intensify and signal the incoming mayhem, the bass takes over and completes the fervent workout. Contrasting on the flip comes ‘Searching’ which instantly gets the feet moving with a strongly kuduro influenced drum arrangement. A low bass hum is partnered with exotic maraca shakes building the atmosphere until a fierce and cutting high pitch flips the script and causes ecstatic pandemonium.
The duo’s wide interest and influence can be heard within the release and seems a perfect match for Kick’s & Snares’ all-encompassing musical aesthetic. Another one-two punch from the restless label.
